Dentures Jupiter FL

At Roy C. Blake III, DDS, MSD, Maxillofacial Prosthodontist we want you to understand how complete (a.k.a. full) dentures work before getting them. These dentures are a removable device that is used to replace your missing teeth.

They're made from either porcelain or acrylic then held together with an acrylic base. In this way, they're like the partial dentures that are used to replace some of your teeth.

However, if you must replace all your teeth, you'll need this complete denture instead. Once you have one in place, it will help you fill out your appearance, improve your self-confidence, and give you "permission" to smile.

How Are Complete Dentures Made?

The denture's base is made of polymethyl methacrylate (a.k.a. PMMA or pigmented acrylic) that mimics your natural gum tissue. It's highly polished, so it'll look as natural as possible.

This also helps prevent bacteria from building up there so your dentures will feel fresh and clean when you're wearing them.

Dentures are built to rest on your gum tissue. They do have some suction that will help hold them in place.

If you still require additional help holding your dentures in place, there's denture adhesive available. This will also help stop food particles from making it uncomfortable to wear your dentures and that is something that will happen when and if food gets trapped under your denture.

The only real difference between an upper and a lower complete denture is how they're constructed. While an upper denture will cover the entire roof of your mouth, a lower denture is U-shaped, so there's plenty of room available for your tongue.

How Do I Take Care Of My New Dentures?

Once you get a set of new dentures, you'll want to take good care of them because they're so expensive.
This is why it's so important to stick to a thorough daily cleaning regime that includes removing and rinsing them after you eat and taking them out to soak overnight, that is also a great way to give your gums a rest during which they can safely restore themselves to their natural state of being.

Any time that you do handle your dentures make sure that you use great care and caution in doing so.

What It Feels Like To Wear Complete Dentures

We want to be upfront with you when it comes to getting complete dentures. This is why we'll advise you what you should expect before you get them.

The one thing you should be aware of though is that it'll take some time to adjust to a new, complete denture. This is especially true when you try to eat or talk with new dentures, but with a little practice you can overcome this though.

Ultimately, you'll find that getting complete dentures will have a positive outcome on your life. You'll be smiling and self-confident again soon enough. So, now that you're a little more familiar with complete dentures, you shouldn't feel so anxious if you need them.
